Global Forum on Genetically Modified Wheat

Date:

October 2010

Venue:

to be announced

The Global Forum on Genetically Modified Wheat - including barley and rye - presents a firm base and structured framework for considering the pros and cons of introducing genetically modified (GM) wheat, barley and rye in the food and feed chain. The topic is now even more focused since the announcement of Monsanto to put on hold the introduction of GM wheat because of consumer resistance. The big public battle over genetically modified wheat is here to stay!

Specific topic areas include:

  • the state of affairs in GM breeding
  • regulations and guidelines in a global context
  • the pros and cons of GM technology
  • environmental, allergenic and ethical questions
  • safety assessment
  • the impact on international trade
  • segregation systems
  • the latest on testing of GM cereals
  • economics
  • communication

As a comprehensive overview the Global Forum on Genetically Modified Wheat provides a reference source for every stakeholder in the food and feed chain.

Interested participants are invited to submit one-page abstracts for papers and posters to the conference secretariat. The members of the organising committee will evaluate the abstracts.
