Food Safety Genomics
Conference on industrial genomics for food quality and safety |
|
Date: |
16-17 May 2004 |
Venue: |
NH Barbizon Palace Hotel, Amsterdam, the Netherlands |
|
The implementation of genomics in processing (lines) is aiming for the production of high quality and safe food and feed
at reduced costs. Recent developments have brought the genomics techniques from the researchers to the doorsteps of the food and feed industry. Time has now come to fine-tune the technical
feasibilities with the requirements of the industry.
Genomics technologies will allow quick identification of micro-organisms present in the (raw) product and to directly measure the total
response of the target micro-organisms to the applied preservation methods. This detailed knowledge enables a quick and reliable prediction of the required processing conditions and a direct
insight in the effectiveness of the applied conditions. It is expected that deviations to the process can be detected within hours instead of days. This will result in a more reliable process and
reduction of energy costs and product loss. |
The members of the Advisory Committee aim at a networking meeting to inform you: |
- on the latest scientific developments
- on the industry's requirements
- on the most up-to-date consumer and legislation perceptions
- to create a European platform for new initiatives for the application of genomics-based technologies in the food and feed industry
