Purpose and organisation of the panel discussion
During this two-day conference the present and future of antimicrobial growth promoters have been discussed from different viewpoints, from benefits to consumer concerns, from risk analysis to international and regulatory developments, from use to alternative strategies and products, etc. But, what is the take home message?

The purpose of this session is to discuss the issues, practices and perspectives of use/non-use of antimicrobial growth promoters, and to inform the participants of the way forward. During the first part of the discussion the panelists representing the various stakeholders will give brief presentations (15 minutes each) concluding on:

  • What do we know about the effects of banning antimicrobial growth promoters?
  • What is the consequence of banning or not banning?
  • What do we do next and how do we do it?
  • And how do we know it will actually achieve anything?

During the second part of the discussion questions from the participants will be answered.
